Hawaii is a story on the struggle of inheriting $3 million in communist-era Romania when owning $1 could mean losing your freedom and touches on the theme of how money could buy if not happiness, at least the freedom to choose unhappiness... Andrei and his father, Vasile, live in communist Romania. Unexpectedly, they receive news from Petru, Vasile's brother who was presumed dead after an escape attempt years before. Petrus had been living in Hawaii all this time and on his death bed, has left Andrei and Vasile a big inheritance. They cannot enter in its possesion, however, as the concept of private property does not exist in communist Romania. The only alternative left to them is to try and claim their inheritance via a free country. (Cinemax)
