This strong and up-to-date drama depicts the daily struggle for a normal family in Bosnia, one of the countries hit hardest by the so-called "transition" from socialism to capitalism. The hopes for democracy and free political life instead became opportunism, turncoat mentality and full-speed ahead for nationalist and religious extremists. In this society battling with political and economic crisis, the war veteran Sasha and his father Muhamed go different ways. As if there weren't enough adversity, Muhamed loses his job and his wife Maria gets cancer. Ines Tanovic's first feature film is a toned-down and stylistically sure story which, despite darkness, draws towards a ray of light. Bosnia and Hercegovina's Oscar contribution.
