Simple, straightforward, visually breathtaking, factually true to reality – space porn. The only thing that dilutes it a bit and spoils the thrilling experience are the scenes that take place "at home". They're important to the ongoing development of the characters, but they crumble the intensity of Shackleton's brilliant drama a bit.
