Sir Robert Norebertson has gambled all on the success of a horse in the Champion Stakes - if it loses, he'll be ruined! Meanwhile, John Mason pays Sherlock Holmes a visit after the relationship between his master Sir Robert and widowed sister Lady Beatrice Falder becomes unbearable. With Holmes on the case it seems that all will be resolved, but only time will tell whether or not Sir Robert's horse will win and solve his financial plight! (iTunes)

Holmes solves a very dark mystery, examines a charred human bone, opens a coffin… This film has a lot, really. Watson plays more of a second fiddle this time, but it doesn't matter, he watches his brilliant colleague with the same fascination with which we watch Jeremy Brett's full commitment.
