Sinopsis(1)

In the 1980s and ‘90s, Michael Hutchence was flying high and topping the charts as the lead singer of the hugely successful Australian rock band INXS. There was, however, a darkness that always hovered behind the spotlight. Hutchence, a man who saw rock and roll as “liberation,” was a natural performer who channeled his unique brand of exuberant vocals and charismatic sex appeal onto the stage until his untimely death at the age of 37. Through a treasure trove of rarely seen archival footage and insights from those closest to Hutchence, director Richard Lowenstein creates a documentary that is both kinetic and intimate, delving into the singer’s complicated upbringing, his rise to fame, the devoted love affairs with women such as Helena Christensen, Kylie Minogue, and Paula Yates, a growing drug problem, the traumatic brain injury that changed the course of his life, and his never-ending struggle to make peace with himself. inglés I was looking forward to this documentary. After AC/DC, INXS is definitely the best Australian band and Michael Hutchence is a truly interesting figure and a great singer. There was a lot I didn’t know and learned from this film. All in all, a decent documentary. A star of Micheal’s size definitely deserved this. The best shots for me are those from Prague before 1989. You won’t see an empty Charles Bridge every day. ()

inglés Would you like a film to be made about you? Kill yourself! Another entry to an already too long series of documentaries about deceased celebrities who had everything and nothing at the same time. Some of the key events seemed only very lightly addressed and thus weren’t entirely clear for someone who’s never heard the name of Michael Hutchence. And with regards to Michael’s “complicated inner world”, as touted by the blurb, well, I didn’t learn much about that, either. #KVIFF2019 ()
