Jean Renoir shows that he had a talent for sound comedy, even though you can see inspiration from silent comedies here. Michel Simon is able to fully immerse himself in his character, as he demonstrates here. It is evident that certain themes were present in the film from the very beginning. Some stories are simply so good that authors constantly strive to come up with them.
