Obediah Lazarus is the son of Judah Lazarus, the original Hanukiller. In 1983, Judah terrorized NY for seven nights and was preparing to sacrifice his eight-year-old son, Obediah, on the eighth night. Judah was convinced it was God’s will, like Abraham and Isaac, to sacrifice his only son to God. Luckily for Obediah, police tracked Judah down and stopped the sacrifice, but Judah was gunned down in the process. Warped by hatred with no guidance, Obediah Lazarus becomes a religious extremist, intolerant of non-Jews, “bad Jews”, and those he perceives to be enemies of the Jewish faith. He is about to unleash eight nights of horror. A group of Jewish teens are getting ready to party for the holidays, but are in for a Festival of Frights. With the help of a wise Rabbi, they deduce that the murder victims have violated Judaic law and that their only chance at survival is to embrace their faith. (Invincible Pictures)

Hanukkah solo podría describirse como un mosaico incoherente de escenas, que tal vez en primera instancia pretendía ser un slasher festivo con el tema de Hanukkah y el judaísmo en general, pero que al final no es más que un infierno de bajo presupuesto increíblemente prolongado y casi imposible de terminar. Se hizo larga como una semana antes del día de la paga: de los 106 minutos, ¡50 deberían haberse quedado en la sala de montaje! Durante un tiempo fue una película de terror, durante un tiempo intentó ser una comedia, pero ambas sin ninguna armonía, sin ingenio y sin atmósfera, ¿qué era? La vi prácticamente solo por Dick Miller, y después de la primera media hora ya me decía que iba a apagarla en cuanto terminara su actuación. Pero como el rabino Walter Paisley no aparece hasta los créditos finales, lo vi todo como una larga tortura para el espectador. RIP grandes de culto como Sid Haig y Dick Miller. Y el Honorable señor Eben McGarr nunca más.
