A la sombra de Kennedy es un drama político sobre Lyndon Baines Johnson, el 36º presidente de los Estados Unidos, que asumió su cargo desde 1963 a 1969. El biopic narra su vida desde su juventud en Texas hasta su llegada y paso por la Casa Blanca. El demócrata más poderoso de Washington, Lyndon Johnson, descubre que su nuevo puesto como vicepresidente de JKF lo vuelve prácticamente irrelevante y se cierne sobre él el fin de su ilustre carrera. Entonces una bala asesina lo catapulta al cargo más importante del país. Rodeado de enemigos y ante una nación dividida, Johnson tiene una oportunidad para resucitar su carrera política y debe luchar para afirmar su legítimo lugar como presidente de los Estados Unidos, un trabajo en el que parece destinado a fracasar. Considering the interesting and sensitive topic it deals with, it is a reprehensibly wasted potential for a good drama. The only good thing is Woody Harrelson’s one-man show, the rest of the cast is atrociously bland, including JFK. A tired biopic drama that offers nothing to make it interesting, or perhaps even rewarding. That is, unless you are terribly impressed by the boisterous and well-masked Woody in a charismatic role he can do.

Woody Harrelson is the star of this film, which is a bit of a shame. It’s not because he's bad - he's great, but there are other actors here who definitely have the chops to play major league's and not just fairly boring sidekicks. This film had much more potential than just showing off Woody's skills and the mastery of makeup artists, even though it still sometimes looks artificial.
