A successful noir film, which relies primarily on its main protagonist, who is very good. Richard Conte proves that some actors are just born for film noir. His performance is, on one hand, classically noir, and gritty, but gradually, as the story unfolds, it becomes much more emotive, and you feel like it's a new element in the noir film. Rather, the film becomes a classic drama with noir elements.
