Sinopsis(1)

The film is based on an important work of the world's literature, the first so-called gothic novel by Horacio Walpole. The story is narrated in an ironic quasi-documentary form as a reconstruction of a real event that happened many years ago. The film is dedicated to all researchers that based their lives on mystification. (texto oficial de la distribuidora)

inglés Jan Švankmajer considered the so-called gothic novel as one of the starting points of his work, and its elements appeared in a number of Švankmajer's pieces. In The Castle of Otranto, which is both an adaptation of the original gothic novel and a charming mystification, this inspirational source manifests itself perhaps most strongly. It's a humorous affair that seems to have been partially inspired by the theater of Jára Cimrman. Overall impression: 90%. ()
