En 1970, el cineasta Luchino Visconti viajó por toda Europa en busca del chico perfecto para personificar la belleza absoluta en su adaptación de "Muerte en Venecia" de Thomas Mann. En Estocolmo descubrió a Björn Andrésen, un tímido adolescente de 15 años, a quien llevó a la fama internacional de la noche a la mañana y llevó a pasar un corto pero intenso tramo de su turbulenta juventud entre el Lido de Venecia, Londres, el Festival de Cine de Cannes y el tan lejano Japón. So I don't understand what the position of the documentary is. Whether it sees its protagonist as a damaged victim or instead admires his straightforward individuality. It comes across as a bit comical in the end, because it seems as if the documentary makers were shocked at Björn’s isolation and squalor and started wondering whether it was his abuse by the artistic elite of the time or the death of his mother that was to blame. All the while Andrésen himself comes across as lacking the assertiveness to kick them out of his house and go read a book or something, which he would have preferred a thousand times more.
