Remedy

A phantasmagorical orgy, cinematically polished and brilliantly directed. I think that's all that needs to be said.

Iñárritu's next fascinating, ruthless analysis of life's journeys, where a single moment forever changes everything that has come before it, with no way back and no forgiveness possible. The acting of the main trio, which would surely deserve a statuette, only adds to the enormous power of this film, which in many ways follows the lead of the excellent Amores Perros. Sean Penn, teetering on the edge of life and death in the hospital is truly unforgettable with his monologue about "21 grams", as is Naomi Watts in the scenes involving the most intense emotions.

Paradoxically, Reservoir Dogs was my "last Tarantino movie". I got exactly what I expected, and given that those expectations were high, I found absolutely no fault with it. A typical Quentin mosaic, great music, dialogue (it's just cool) and a foreshadowing of future Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown style of flicks to come.

It's not often that a director like David Lynch can move an audience to tears (except for Elephant Man, of course). The Straight Story is such a sensitively and, above all, civilly told story with beautiful music that not one of my eyes remained dry. An excellent Richard Farnsworth in his final role.

From one perspective, a sad and serious film. From the other, sort of a bittersweet tale of the "late summer" of life, friendship, love, and most of all wine. Sideways is a sensitive slice of life, sensitively directed and acted. The main duo complement and contrast each other beautifully.

Keeping the Faith has two distinct halves. But more on that at the end. :) Edward Norton, making his directorial debut, does an excellent job playing his priest likably and convincingly, as does Ben Stiller in playing his rabbi. Jenna Elfman shines in her role. I would call Norton's "first film" an enjoyable (at times more serious) romantic comedy that easily trumps today's so-called romantic comedies... And now to the two halves: while the first one is guaranteed to make you laugh, the second one will make you think and experience it a bit deeper... The relationship and more serious storyline alternates with the comedy line, but it doesn't end badly... :-) Maybe it never would have been able to. :)

Expecting a would-be "normal and ordinary cartoon" from Tim Burton is almost impossible. But that's what makes Burton's films what they are. A reasonable dose of wit, a magical world, a magical atmosphere, and Burton's usual actors lending their voices to the main characters. I haven't seen something so beautiful and magical in a long time.

Visually impressive, but everything else was dumped... Wahlberg is bland, Nelly Furtado doesn't impress either, only Ludacris shines a bit.) The pictures of the snow-covered city are nice to look at sometimes, but that's really the only major plus... Otherwise, in terms of direction and script, it's a bland piece of crap with a chaotic plot and unconvincing performances, if you can even call them that.

One of my all-time favorite films. An absolute action hit for the time and quite possibly one of the best action films ever made. I was 10 the first time I saw it, and I told everyone at school about it until they had to see it too. :) Even with the distance of time, I'd gladly watch The Rock again anytime. The filmmaking is absolutely excellent, plus Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage have long been my favorites...

An action flick with a touch of romance. A brilliantly crafted film that almost perfectly fulfils all the features of the genre. A little more room for Norton and Tyler's relationship would have gone a long way, but that's a very minor flaw.
