An average camp slasher and the beginning of one of the most famous franchises, one that only later would reach its peak.

The hotel where they filmed is cool, but I’m not giving it a star because of that.

I quite liked it when I was a little boy, but I had the misfortune of watching it again recently. Yeah, I laughed a couple of times, but I don’t think that’s what the creators wanted.

A pretty gripping B-movie that never gets boring and, more importantly, won’t make you shake your head at the stupid behaviour of the characters. The protagonists act in a surprisingly realistic fashion, which makes their fight for survival very believable. That very important good thing compensates for the shortcoming that is the main villain, who’s not precisely brimming with charisma and who feels contrived instead of scary. Although figuring out the ending wasn’t hard, I had good fun, which is something I appreciate in films. 71%

Together with Se7en, the best psychological thriller of the 90s.

One of my favourite horror thrillers. Thumbs up for the great twist and the interesting way it’s delivered.

My opinion about Eli Roth’s films is the exact opposite as the consensus. Cabin Fever is the one I liked the least – or rather, I almost didn’t like it at all. Those few disgusting scenes aren’t enough to pull the film out of the mud, while the almost parody ending buries it completely.

One of the biggest injustices on Filmbooster. Hostel is not a turning-point in modern horror, and if it wanted to be among the best of the genre, it would have to offer a lot more. That said, it is a slightly above-average film that has the misfortune of having been watched by people who shouldn’t watch this kind of stuff. If you expect being afraid or scared by an exploitation film, the problem is yours and not the film’s.

I don’t like Verbinski’s The Ring much due to the long-haired ghost-story remake craze it generated. Nevertheless, it is undoubtedly a very scary movie.
