Parasyte: Los grises - Episode 5 (2024) (episodio)

inglés Up until now, I've approached the series as a straightforward B-movie action splatter without lofty ambitions. However, in this episode, I sensed the creators attempting to inject some depth into their otherwise undemanding spectacle, a move that, in my opinion, missed the mark. The previous episode was undoubtedly superior in comparison. / Lesson learned: Trust isn't easily earned.

The Last Kingdom - Episode 9 (2022) (episodio)

inglés Well, color me surprised! After the chaotic mess that was the fifth episode, I didn't hold out much hope for the rest of the season. Even though this episode wasn't packed with action or medieval torture antics, I'm giving it five stars. It delved into conversations instead, with dialogues that sent shivers down my spine at times. I can't decide if I was more shocked or delighted. / Lesson learned: Never underestimate the power of quality camouflage.

Parasyte: Los grises - Episode 4 (2024) (episodio)

inglés Well, it's not exactly a show which requires you to do much thinking. But you know what? I'm starting to care less and less about that, just like I'm becoming more forgiving of the occasional lapses in logic. After all, this series is based on a Japanese comic, so I'm not going to start griping about every little plot hole. With all the action-packed scenes, I found myself enjoying it so much that I'm giving it a solid four stars. / Lesson learned: Murphy would just shrug and say, "I told you so."

The Last Kingdom - Episode 8 (2022) (episodio)

inglés This episode was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Don't get me wrong, I did have a good time watching it, but the essence of the earlier seasons has somehow gone missing. Yet, I can't say I was left completely disappointed. That said, I wouldn't mind if the creators steered the plot in some fresh directions. And then, there was that whole "All for one!" finale, which felt a tad too cheesy for my taste. / Lesson learned: When the gods align, things tend to take a turn for the better.

Parasyte: Los grises - Episode 2 (2024) (episodio)

inglés The second episode followed a similar formula to the last one, delivering a decent dose of action and drama. Things were going smoothly until the Korean creators decided to up the number of weird-shaped heads. While most of the head-fights left me chuckling, I still found myself having a pretty good time overall. That B-movie vibe really adds to the charm. / Lesson learned: Watch out when dealing with folks; you never know what might pop into their heads.

Parasyte: Los grises - Episode 1 (2024) (episodio)

inglés I didn't have high hopes for this show. After all, my internet wanderings had led me to believe that Asian folks have a special fondness for tentacled and worm-like creatures that us Europeans might find, well, a tad peculiar. But lo and behold, the opening episode of this Korean creation wasn't half as daft as I'd imagined. I found myself drawn into the lineup and the storyline. It wasn't exactly a mental workout, but it did bring back fond memories of playing Resident Evil 4./ Lesson learned: Not all schizophrenics are the same.

Mi reno de peluche - Episode 2 (2024) (episodio)

inglés Well, it's official — I'm among the few who just couldn't get into this series. Throughout this episode, I was constantly checking the time, wondering why twenty-eight minutes felt like an eternity. Martha looked terrible, but she still can't compare to Annie Wilkes. The real deal-breaker for me was Donny/Tony, though, who continued to act like a total idiot. Watching these two was just painful, so I'm throwing in the towel after episode two. / Lesson learned: A moron will always be a moron.

Mi reno de peluche - Episode 1 (2024) (episodio)

inglés Judging by most of the reviews, it seems like I might be the odd one out, but the pilot episode didn't quite hit the mark for me.  It left me feeling rather underwhelmed, so I was relieved when it finally wrapped up. I struggled to fully engage with the story, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things take an unexpected turn and don't veer into pet-cooking territory. / Lesson learned: When dealing with unwanted romantic attention, choose your words very, very carefully.

Amar Singh Chamkila (2024)

inglés I'm not usually one for musicals or movies heavy on music, and India has never been my cup of tea. So, on paper, this film shouldn't have been my thing at all. But surprise, surprise — I actually enjoyed it! Quite a bit, in fact. The singer's life story intrigued me and once again reinforced my belief that fanatics of any kind are a toxic presence that society could do without. Plus, I even liked the quirky 80's Indian pop.

Jo Koy: Live from the Los Angeles Forum (2022) (programa)

inglés Jo Koy managed to redeem himself in my eyes with this special, especially after yesterday's somewhat disappointing experience from the Philippines. For the most part, I had a blast, particularly with his interaction with Dylan — it had me in stitches. But then... Right before the finale, Jo Koy veered away from his previously stellar humor and delved into political statements, completely tarnishing my overall impression of his performance. / Lesson learned: Serious political speeches kill the humor.
