Pesadillas (2015)

inglés I admit that at a second viewing, this film feels far friendlier than when I first saw it. For the first time, I was mainly annoyed by those brats, which didn’t change that much. On the other hand, I must admit that I felt the same way as when I watched Jumanji as a kid. And that’s why the movie grew on me in the end. Goosebumps might not be the best fantasy horror comedy, but it’s still something that they don’t film anymore. Most importantly, there’s even occasional jokes (especially the cops), beautiful effects, inventive story and Jack Black.

No em cridis que no et veig (1989)

inglés This film left me with two clearly defined feelings. Gene Wilder reminded me of the time I was watching him in Blazing Saddles and enjoyed the film even for the fifth time. And then I was reminded or Laurel and Hardy, only with completely different actors, one of whom plays the blind and the other the deaf. A very nice slapstick with a solid old-school vulgar Czech voice acting, which I appreciate.

Zoolander No. 2 (2016)

inglés I haven’t seen a cringier comedy for a long time, which I didn’t expect at all. And I must say that I didn’t even expect anything of the Zoolander sequel by default, since the first one years ago didn’t really excite me either. But people change, the times change and I thought that maybe, I could be a little bit more lenient with this kind of humor. But not only did Ben Stiller shoot total garbage, which could have been expected, it was also incredibly cringey, which I didn’t anticipate. When I was watching the movie, I felt embarrassed for him, and that doesn’t really happen often. At least Owen Wilson was there as Hansel and looked like he was actually from this world.

Refugio (2014)

inglés The Germans are attacking us again with that aggressive precision and with difficult-to-define emotions. The story is fairly austere and systematic; however, it evokes the effect of disgust and contempt, thus fulfilling its purpose.Sanctuary is an absolutely unprecedented drama that tries to document someof the disgusting things that took place in West Germany. It could almost be said that the boys in that camp were probably the only West Germans who would rather live in East Germany at that moment; that’s how cruel this movie was.

Bolero (2004)

inglés As I was reading some of these comments that are often nearing 10 years of age, it made me think; was the audience back then way more lenient with Czech movies or are Czech movies on a completely different level nowadays? Because Bolero is a complete pile of bull crap where the main characters talk out of their asses, the side characters play something every now and then and the story is about as usual as a trip to the Moon.

The Vessel (El navío) (2016)

inglés A spiritual film that tries to cleanse a fishing village affected by tragedy of all evil. Personally, I can’t even imagine what such a village might look like after years. But movie-wise, it’s not really a win. Although you’ll be dazzled by the charismatic Father Martin Sheen, his little sheep will make you depressed after only five minutes and after another ten, you would be hanging yourself off the nearest banana tree. A very unapproachable movie.

Radiator (2014)

inglés When you look at the overall rating of this movie, you’ll notice an array of average three stars. But in this case, appearances can be deceptive. Radiatoris a fairly interesting movie and I watched its story of an old couple with great interest. I liked the environment of the English countryside and the melancholic mood, which is quite fitting. I was also interested in the characters played by Richard Johnson and Gemma Jones. It’s obvious they’re both great actors and that they really related to these characters. What was worse was the movie’s flow, which is pretty much unchanging throughout the hour and a half. Nothing happens and yet the time inconspicuously moves forwards to the end. Even though I was watching the movie, it was as if I was hypnotized by the English countryside.

Eddie el águila (2016)

inglés The famous Calgary Olympics did not only have the Jamaican bobsledders, but also – of course – the English ski jumper Eddie Eagle Edwards. And just like the Jamaican bobsledders, he was able to draw all the attention to himself and this movie is about that. I liked the way this movie tells Eddie’s story with absolutely no embellishments. Eddie is introduced as a sort of a silly dreamer who wants to get to the Olympics, so he learns to ski jump in a year and somehow qualifies for the Olympics. In a single year. He must have really embarrassed all the professional ski jumpers who have been training since they were 6 years old; he truly did, in all his splendor. And the amazing drunkard Hugh Jackman has helped him so well that I had the feeling like I was watching Cool Runnings for the first time. That’s also why the Jamaican flag was mentioned in one of the scenes, because the most important thing isn’t really winning, but taking part. And even though the athletes have it complicated, the flying Finn said it very nicely at the end of the movie.

La última familia (2016)

inglés It’s been a long time I’ve felt such a lingering silence throughout the entire cinema after the final scene. I didn’t say a word, I just stared blankly at the screen, thinking about the tragic family story that I had just watched. And even though I knew where it was going halfway through the movie already, it never occurred to me that it would end the way it did. The whole movie stunned me even more once I looked up Zdzisław Beksiński on the internet. And I also recommend you to google him afterwards, for an even better movie experience. It is perfect filmmaking that slowly gets under the viewer’s skin with heavy characters, none of whom are lovable, but each of whom have their upsides and their downsides which you end up pondering all the time. But I think that I can’t recall a similar movie. When you’re surprised by a movie that you knew nothing about and it tells a story about someone that you knew nothing about, be sure that it’ll be as stunned as I was. The Swiss artist Giger once said that Zdzislaw’s paintings were something he had never seen in his life.I believe that it’s the same with this movie. I have never had a similar movie experience. Hats off to the 3Kino movie festival for bringing such a strong story to life. I’m speechless…

Paprika. Detective de los sueños (2006)

inglés Exactly according to the classic routine of Japanese anime; beautiful animation that gets repetitive at times and a story that is so interesting that it gets too complicated. But it’s definitely a movie worth watching and thinking about. But not to be too critical, I must say that the finale was excellent and the music was also very nice. Above-standard for a Japanese anime…
