Finales de la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945). Un hombre herido viaja en un convoy sanitario por una carretera italiana, pero su estado es tan grave que tiene que quedarse en un monasterio deshabitado y semiderruido, donde se encarga de cuidarlo Hana, una enfermera canadiense.
