¿Cómo encontrar un amor duradero hoy en día? Para la documentalista y adicta a las aplicaciones de citas, Zoe (Lily James), deslizar el dedo a la derecha sólo le ha traído un sinfín de hombres inadecuados, para gran consternación de su excéntrica madre Cath (Emma Thompson). Para Kaz (Shazad Latif), amigo de la infancia y vecino de Zoe, la solución consiste en seguir el ejemplo de sus padres y optar por un matrimonio concertado (o "asistido") con una hermosa novia de Pakistán. Según Zoe va filmando el emocionante viaje de su amigo de Londres a Lahore para casarse con una extraña elegida por sus padres, ella empieza a preguntarse si quizá pueda aprender algo de un enfoque tan diferente a la hora de encontrar el amor. Shekhar Kapur's film doesn't rely on a novel theme as much as on authentically written and endearingly acted characters whose love doesn't always work out as planned. But there is definitely a certain spice in setting the story in a world with values that are completely alien to us Europeans. Much like the story of the central couple, Zoe and Kazim, I was intrigued by the line about the disowned daughter. Even though you suspect (and know) from the beginning how the whole thing will end, it was still a nice film to watch - thanks to the nice cast, but also to the unusual cultural colour (see the wedding or the matchmaking service). Three and three-quarters stars!
