Ambientada en el año 1820, cuenta la historia de Eugene Onegin, un aristócrata que se traslada a San Petersburgo. Allí conoce a Vladimir Lensky, quien le presenta a la hermana de su prometida Olga, de quien se enamora perdidamente. Certainly a properly pompous spectacle that faithfully represents the end of the 18th century with all its grandiosity, stiffness, and minimalism, when emotions were expressed briefly, nobly, and with appropriate form, while not being overly discussed. In this case, it is worth getting carried away by the impressive performances, the phenomenal camera work, and the brutally uncompromising editing in the style of "three years later, but you can figure it out yourself." So, perhaps a film that is a bit too narratively based on a more grandiose source, but as a chamber piece, it is very effective. I felt those emotions and perspectives, the inevitability was palpable, and the sense of formal aesthetics cannot be denied.
