Sinopsis(1)
Alexandre (Jean-Pierre Léaud) es un joven burgués cínico y egoísta que vive en París. Se encuentra en un fase nihilista de su existencia: no estudia, no trabaja y apenas se interesa por los libros o por la música. Lo único que le interesa son las mujeres y, además, vive a su costa. Poco a poco va formando con Marie (Bernadette Lafont) y Veronika (Françoise Lebrun), a pesar de la inicial resistencia de ambas, un atípico "menage à trois", que, para él, es absolutamente satisfactorio porque representa un equilibrio entre lo sexual, lo maternal y lo material. Al mismo tiempo, es capaz de mantenerse al margen de los sentimientos de frustración o malestar que su conducta pueda provocar en sus amantes. (Filmin)

The Mother and the Whore is an essential “French gab-fest”, but unlike most of its successors and imitators (including Wes Anderson), it not only doesn’t take itself so deadly seriously, but it also doesn’t hesitate to step into the waters of disarming immediacy and shallowness. As a result, this mammoth film about the delicate subject of amorous relationships can be simultaneously romantic and caustic, as well as tragic and playful.

A long movie where there is a lot of talking, of course passionately, and everything makes sense. However, I still didn't enjoy it and it just seemed too long to me. I would rather watch "Titanic" again than this, and I never had to watch "Titanic". I guess it's because of how influenced I am by the American style of filmmaking and approach to movies.
