Cuando Juliette se casa con Jean va vivir a L'Atalante, el barco de él, junto a su tripulación: un grumete y el viejo marinero Jules. La joven se cansa pronto de la aburrida vida marítima y abandona el barco cuando encalla en París, atraída por la vida nocturna de la ciudad. Enfurecido, Jean prosigue su marcha, dejando atrás a su esposa. Abrumado por la pena y la añoranza, cae en una depresión. Jules decide ir en busca de Juliette. (A Contracorriente Films)

The biggest mystery of L'Atalante and Grand Illusion remains the influence of Dita Parlo on Madonna (think of Erotica and Sex in 1992 "My name is Dita, I'll be your mistress tonight...") and Dita von Teese. How this could inspire anyone to do anything is a mystery to me.

Well, not all classics have to touch me so deeply that I understand and love them. "Atalanta" simply didn't touch me, it didn't say anything to me, and as a romantic film, I didn't really like it. Maybe I will understand the magic of Viggo's films more often, but that hasn't happened yet. There are interesting scenes here, no doubt, but I guess I don't understand the meaning of the movie, or I don't know...
