Stopmotion

Una premisa similar a Evil Ed (Diabólico) o Censor; acercándose más a la segunda, no sólo por ser una película de terror británica, sino principalmente porque ambas películas se ahogan en su propia mierda. Pero tengo que decir por mí mismo que Stopmotion me cayó mejor que Censor y, en mi opinión, en esta batalla de películas tonalmente similares es la ganadora. El punto fuerte de la película de Robert Morgan es su atmósfera a veces desagradable y deprimente, que no siempre funciona perfectamente, pero que a veces tiene el poder de grabarse en la cabeza del espectador, especialmente cuando se trata de criaturas stop-motion hechas de carroñas. Me gustó mucho el motivo de la leyenda retirada de su oficio, que quiere terminar su última película al final de su vida, pero se lo impide una artritis que le impide realizar su trabajo, por lo que se lo dicta despóticamente a su hija que carece de visiones e ideas creativas de qué hacer exactamente. Pero esto sólo sirve como un trampolín: la historia toma una dirección diferente después de un tiempo, rápidamente ofrece un cliché tras otro y llega exactamente a donde yo esperaba. (10.10.2023)

Robert Morgan is an expert in stop-motion animation and he showed his skills in the short Bobby Yeah, but the feature film format doesn't suit him that well, as I thought he kept things on a very short leash and there's no twisted deviousness. The film does try to bring a breath of fresh air to the horror genre, but there are few horror attractions and the slower pace doesn't even make it any proper fun. Breathing life into the puppets with meat and a dead fox was an interesting idea and the final appearance was pretty creepy, but something interesting doesn't really start happening until 15 minutes before the end and that's too late. It's somewhere right at the halfway point. Sympathy for the idea, but a lot more could have been done with it. 55%. (16.03.2024)
