En 1959 en la ciudad británica de Bristol el detective y ex-policía Tony Aaron se ocupa de resolver casos de divorcios, haciendo seguimientos y fotos comprometedoras que le puedan servir a sus clientes para alegar adulterio de su cónyuge. El caso más importante de su vida será el suyo propio, ya que aparecen muertos en la habitación de un hotel su propia esposa y un rico y famoso artista, un pintor norteamericano, en un doble asesinato, y él es el principal sospecho del mismo. Para complicar más la situación se envuelve sentimentalmente con Angeline, la amante del hombre que tenía un affaire con su mujer. Aaron sospecha que el motivo del crimen puede ser el obtener cuantiosos beneficios con su obra pictórica póstuma que sube rápidamente de precio. (Filmax)
