After the CEO croaks during a boardroom meeting at a Madison Avenue ad agency, members trying to sabotage each other's chance of winning the top spot each vote for the token black guy, thereby electing Putney Swope. Swope swoops into action, firing them all and replacing them with armed radicals, soul brothers, and sexy red-hot mamas. Re-naming the agency "Truth and Soul," Putney sets about revolutionizing the corporate world of advertising, banning the marketing of products such as cigarettes, alcohol and violent toys. The agency produces raucous, kooky TV spots - offensive, humorous, and, at first, wildly successful. But can "Truth and Soul" last, not only in advertising but within Putney himself? En el primer tercio me entusiasmó la rápida cadencia de gags absurdos, que casi te hacen desencajarte de risa. A continuación, el segundo tercio aporta mucho humor incorrecto, que por supuesto se intercala con momentos en los que se hace un poco lento. En el último tercio, todo se desmorona bajo el peso de la pura anarquía guionística y termina en ninguna parte. Putney Swope es una película que me ha hecho reír tanto como pocas en los últimos meses, pero sigo teniendo la sensación de que no funciona realmente como una pieza de cine cohesionada, sino que se limita a un sketch tras otro. En fin, nada en contra, fue un sólido entretenimiento y con gusto volveré a él con otro ánimo. [KVIFF 2021]
