Basada en una historia real, "Disparando a perros" cuenta la historia de Joe Connor, un joven que dispuesto a ayudar a los demás viaja a Ruanda. El trabajo en beneficio de los habitantes de la pobre aldea en la que se encuentra, hace que Joe se sienta realizado. Allí es feliz, hasta que el genocidio comienza. Él, interno en una escuela cerrada y protegida por militares de la ONU, ve impotente como la masacre se lleva la vida de cientos de ruandeses. En un primer momento, Joe, prometió a sus alumnos ayudarles de los ataques de los militares extremistas, pero la ONU decide no responsabilizarse de ellos. Atrapado en un dilema moral, tendrá que decidir si marcharse para salvar su vida o ayudar a sus queridos alumnos destinados a la muerte. (Lauren Films)

A TV movie set in the same period in which Hotel Rwanda took place. Only this time, from the perspective of Europeans. The visuals are logically worse due to the budgetary constraints and the whole thing only takes place in a few locations. The acting is quite mediocre, and moreover, the characters themselves are basically pretty uninteresting. The directing isn’t that great either. Beyond the Gates does not move you, but it certainly manages to catch your interest, although it assumes that you know at least something about the events of April 1994 in Rwanda. However, despite all the above downsides, this is not as “ostentatious" as the much better known (though undoubtedly excellent) Hotel Rwanda, which therefore may work better for some viewers.
