Mientras juegan en el desván de su casa, los hijos del profesor Wayne Szalinski y sus vecinos activan accidentalmente el nuevo invento del despistado científico: un rayo láser capaz de reducir los objetos a un tamaño microscópico. Convertidos en minúsculos seres, su situación empeora cuando Szalinski, ignorando el hecho, limpia la habitación arrojándolos al jardín. Descubriendo una jungla donde las piedras parecen montañas y simples gotas de agua pueden provocar una increíble inundación, el "microscópico" cuarteto se ve sumergido en una emocionante aventura cuando tratan de evitar ser aplastados por sus padres, o ser devorados por el perro de la familia, o ser triturados por una máquina cortacésped descontrolada o... When I was a kid, I understandably loved it – there aren't many things a child wants more than to spend a day in miniature in a world of giants. After the years, it remains a fine adventure, but it would work better as an episode in a series about a mad scientist and his various experiments. The exposition is very long and the heroes are uninteresting, while the part around the shrinking doesn't show that much (the best is the scene with the bee and the fight with the scorpion). Fortunately, at least Rick Moranis has a sufficiently funny face and Johnston knows how to work with environments and special effects, so it all sort of passes harmlessly and entertains.
