A wonderful experience. Of the many Hemingway adaptations, this first adaptation is one of the best. It’s a film that seemed timeless when it premiered and remains so today. Everything is as it should be. Everyone is in their place (the great Cooper and Menjou, the wonderful Hayes). Everything is authentic, nothing is missing, and nothing is excessive. I recommend adding Love and War to the biography. And, of course, reading the book. ()
