La película cuenta la historia de Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson), una niña superdotada cuya inteligencia supera con creces a la de su inculta familia. Sin duda, este hecho provoca que se sienta realmente aislada en su hogar al percibir que es una persona incomprendida y falta de cariño por parte de sus seres queridos, quienes no entienden la razón por la que la muchacha posee semejantes cualidades intelectuales. No obstante, su vida cambia radicalmente cuando empieza el colegio, donde descubre sus propias habilidades especiales y además forma un vínculo con una sensible profesora, la Srta. Jennifer Honey, una mujer que dedicará todo su esfuerzo en conseguir que la protagonista se convierta en una chica con un potencial aún mayor. As the premiere of the new adaptation of Matilda is slowly approaching, I decided to watch the now classic version from the 90s. Matilda is a strange (but quite traditional by Roald Dahl standards) mix of family comedy and fantasy film, whose success (for me) lies mainly in the cast. On the one hand we have the endearing Mara Wilson and the incredibly lovely Embeth Davidtz, while on the other we have the hellishly evil Pam Ferris, whose Aunt Marge in the Harry Potter universe was a weak offshoot of Director Trunchbull. It terms of the story, it's nothing breathtaking, and the humorous line is more snarky than downright funny, but it's ultimately an easygoing film that doesn't offend
