La primera película documental sobre The Doors, cuenta la historia de una de las bandas más "oscuras y peligrosas" que han existido en el mundo del rock and roll. Utilizando exclusivamente material original, en su mayoría inédito y rodado en buena parte por el propio Morrison entre 1966 y 1971 - período de existencia del grupo -, el director Tom DiCillo presenta a la banda y su contexto en la América de los 60. Su montaje lineal, sin entrevistas actuales, promueve la inmediatez y la modernidad como película por sí misma. Narrada por Johnny Depp, la película abre una ventana al mundo de los excesos de la fama, las drogas y el alcohol en un grupo que triunfó pero que siempre se mantuvo firme en su creencia de ser fiel a la música. Aunque la vida de Jim Morrison, ajetreada y llena de excesos, marca la guía del film, en realidad es la historia de cuatro músicos: Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger y John Densmore. Los cuatro, gracias a su insistencia, su libertad artística y rechazo a comprometerse con las modas, lograron convertirse en referentes de toda una generación (y muchas posteriores), marcando una época. I actually quite agree with the review by the user kleopatra, who cannot praise this movie enough. This documentary may not really provide any new and shocking information, but it does capture exactly what The Doors, including Jim Morrison, have gone through during their entire working careers. From beginning to end. Everything is completely objective, thanks to the very close shots very personal and thanks to Depp it is told quite emotionlessly. Even though it is common knowledge that he’s a huge The Doors fan. In the end, there is nothing left but to form your own opinion on Jim, which is a big plus of this documentary. And since I like The Doors and watched this documentary for this very reason, I can’t help but rate this with the full number of stars.

If you love the group, you'll probably be pleased, but ultimately, this is just everything that can be found on the internet and nothing much more. It's simply put into one collage, where it's not so much the story of The Doors as it is the story of Jim Morrison. Great singer, great band, interesting stories, but this is just such a bland tribute.
