Despite the slow take-off, the ending all the better for it, arousing hopes that the remaining two parts of Yoshikawa’s legendary novel about Musashi would also be treated to a decent adaptation. However, this is far from true about part one itself which would have benefitted from being considerably shorter and combined with part two. ()
