Pakten

In the strong room of a bank in the German university town of Heidelberg lies a sealed covenant dating from 1937. Four ageing doctors are on their way to Heidelberg: August Lind from Sweden, Theodore (Ted) Roth and Ernest Bogan from the USA and their terminally ill Norwegian friend Carl Berner whom they have smuggled out of an Oslo hospital. The old friends are returning to Heidelberg to fulfil the covenant they made when they were students. Weary after their long journey they reach the venerable historic city. They open the covenant in a private, moving ceremony. It contains Berners final wish: that he should meet again the great love of his student days. But where is she? The three friends start on a strenuous hunt for their fellow students old flame. Yet much has changed since 1937. The task appears impossible. As they strive to honour the covenant, the search oscillates between comical, morbid and absurd situations, fateful decisions and terrifying confrontations. (Norsk Filminstitutt)
