El buque británico Mount Kyle es hundido por un submarino alemán cerca de la desembocadura del Río Orinoco a finales de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Tras el hundimiento los alemanes masacran a todos los supervivientes, pero el soldado Murphy conseguirá sobrevivir milagrosamente. Inconsciente, despertará en un Hospital Cuáquero gracias a la doctora Hayden (Sian Phillips). Mientras trata de recuperarse conocerá al ingeniero petrolífero francés Louis (Philippe Noiret) y juntos verán aparecer a otro superviviente del Mount Kyle, el piloto Ellis (John Hallam) quien consiguió salvar uno de los hidroaviones del buque y amerizarlo en el río. Ahora Murphy, bastante afectado mentalmente, tiene algo con lo que intentar devolver el ataque al submarino, pero primero deberá aprender a pilotar el hidroavión y encontrar algo que usar de explosivo arrojadizo... There are war movies and there are movies that only pretend to be about war. The Trouble with Murphy's War is that it pretends quite unconvincingly, and it is simply a film full of strange emotions, strange decisions, and strange actions. The fabricated story relies on the performance of two great actors of their time, but unfortunately, in moments when I should have been afraid for the protagonist or cheering for him, I had difficulty holding back laughter. Even the 2 stars I'm giving it are not very convincing. As an adventure film, it is tolerable if you turn off your brain and don't question reality. Overall impression: 35%.
