Red Dead Redemption: The Man from Blackwater

Rockstar decided to promote their game with a twenty-five minute commercial where they gave a gifted directed the first act of the game to work with. But he just pruned it brutally, stopped it making any sense and didn’t bestow any of his talent on it. In other words, as a free-standing short, this movie doesn’t really work. It’s a little better as a stylish commercial, but it is definitely far from ideal. Too bad; it was a good idea to start with, just badly executed. (01.06.2010)

I had a few problems with this short not related to the game. Firstly, it is too long (a painful half hour), it is not particularly well animated (well, a PC game is a PC game) and the unentertaining story could be called "the most famous western clichés in one" without exaggeration. But if I knew the game, I might have a different opinion. Since i don’t, I can say I liked the music, some of the shots and.... What else? Not much beyond that. (14.08.2010)
