A failed attempt at modern Hitchcock, with so many shocking twists and turns that halfway through I didn't really care whether the chick from Transformers was killed off by Dredd, Cyclops, young Scofield, Cameron from Modern Family or the Belgian whose last name I can't spell. ()
It's a modern homage to Hitchcock, but the content is too layered and the screenwriting too inept. The twists piling on top of each other cease to be clear, but with each successive effort to decipher them, they become increasingly sophisticatedly as the film progresses. So while the male cast is typically from the life of the bourgeoisie, the female cast is at least strange and sometimes quite out of place. The talented cast didn't save it in the finale, but it's not a bummer either. I'm not comparing it to the original films. ()
Even though the ending is very unsatisfying and it felt like one big cliché to me, it's still a movie that managed to captivate me and pulled off quite an interesting plot within one larger apartment. Perhaps at times, it's overly convoluted, but even that aspect worked for me in the story. Plus, there are good acting performances. Isabel Lucas is incredibly sexy, but she always is. ()
