Sinopsis(1)
Bernie LaPlante (Dustin Hoffman), un ladronzuelo vagabundo que se dedica a hacer trapicheos para vivir, rescata a varias personas tras un accidente de avión y luego desaparece. Entre los pasajeros se encuentra Gale (Geena Davis), una ambiciosa reportera de televisón que quiere encontrar al anónimo héroe. Su única pista es un zapato que Bernie perdió. El otro zapato lo tiene John Bubber (Andy Garcia), un vagabundo veterano de Vietnam que decide entonces hacerse pasar por el salvador de los pasajeros del avión siniestrado, haciéndose famoso de la noche a la mañana.
