Carrier coach Sven has gotten sick of helping everyone else changing their lifes. He quits his job and goes to Thailand to find himself and to realize his dream to become a writer. At the beach he meets Gitte, a Norwegian free spirited yoga practitioner who is excited by the thought of new adventures in the unexplored jungles of Burma. Then Anja shows up, a serious Swedish publishing editor who's on a break from her boyfriend. Sven's love life is a mess and the writers block won't unblock. Excelente comedia de verano de nuestros amigos nórdicos, durante la cual me reí varias veces de corazón. Una serie de chistes ingeniosos, personajes bien desarrollados y un ambiente costero y relajante que me hicieron preguntarme a mí mismo varias veces si no dejarlo todo aquí y pasar un tiempo en Tailandia.

The laid-back mood emanating from this romantic comedy is pretty much contagious. I didn't find any humor that made me laugh, but I was pleased by the absence of fecal and sexist jokes. Moreover, I have a great feeling that I would enjoy some of the scenes and funny lines much more on a repeat viewing. (65%)

Once Upon a Time in Phuket is an incredibly nice comedy. The entire premise might be absolutely classic and not really differentiated from an array of other romcoms, but in my opinion, the execution definitely deserves five stars; thanks to the movie characters, thanks to the actors, the atmosphere and the environment. An amazing movie that served its purpose – it lifted my spirits.
