Jean, un desertor del ejército francés (Jean Gabin), llega a Le Havre -una ciudad permanentemente envuelta en la niebla-, para huir en barco. Conoce a Nelly (Michèle Morgan) en Casa Panamá, un garito del muelle, y simpatizan de inmediato; ella es una joven de 17 años tiranizada por su tutor, Zabel (Michele Simon), un hombre extraño que mantiene tratos con un grupo de jóvenes que juegan a ser mafiosos. Uno de ellos acosa a Nelly, y Jean lo humilla. El suicidio de un pintor, que frecuenta Casa Panamá, permite al desertor asumir una nueva identidad. (Divisa Home Video)

A classical French melodrama with elements of the noir genre about a military deserter who encounters a fateful love and several men from the outskirts of society during his journey. Their encounter has fatal consequences for him. High-quality cinematography, and a top-notch performance by Jean Gabin, who was already creating space for himself to become the greatest French male film star at the time. Plot-wise, however, it is relatively unremarkable. Michel Simon takes on the role of a villain as if from bad anti-Semitic films, appearing as a greedy and lascivious Jew. Overall impression: 65%.
