inglés Every now and then, an older movie surprises me, even though it’s not necessarily a rule. But I didn’t know that Beauties of the Night will be more of a musical with easily forgettable songs than a proper high-quality movie. Plus, it’s really obvious that the creators were making a theatre comedy more than a real movie comedy. Because those wannabe funny scenes are so purpose-built it’s sad. ()

inglés In the 1950s, this film had all the prerequisites to be a significant commercial success. The comedy genre, beautiful women, and the star Gérard Philipe. However, it is not the beginning of the 1950s anymore, and what was sufficient back then no longer holds up today. Especially the operetta inserts now appear outdated. A similar "surreal" form was used two decades later in The Man from Acapulco, which still leaves a fresh modern impression. Beauties of the Night may not offend, but the film no longer has anything to captivate us with. Overall impression: 55%. ()
