The secret personal diaries of Jarmila Čapková from the years 1933 - 1947 are a suggestive look at the life of an artistic family that influenced the cultural climate of modern Czech history in the first half of the 20th century. There is devastating love and seething hate here. Jarmila's post-war years, when she searched desperately through the German infirmaries and madhouses for any sign of Josef, is in direct contrast to this. The diaries cast an uncommon light on the cooperation between the Čapek brothers and their lives together in a joint household. It is a drama of human relationships that were seen by the general public as an idyll of the First Republic.
