Magi

For reasons unknown, many people were looking forward to MAGI. After watching it, I’m still none the wiser about the reasons for that general interest, because this was really miserable. The whole thing is shot in nasty, unaesthetic high contrast filters, the atmosphere is drowned in flickering, out of focus images and a flood of dodgy CGI; the ending looks like a video game from the 1990s. The actors are terrible, it’s longer than a poor man’s hope, I watched it three times. Annoyance. This year’s BASKIN, also from Turkey, was no masterpiece either, but compared to this one, it’s on a different level. (24.09.2016)
