Malcolm es un friki que sobrevive en uno de los barrios negros más duros de Los Ángeles, California. Está en la escuela secundaria superior, y su objetivo es ir a la Universidad, por eso realiza entrevistas académicas y se prepara para la selectividad. Él y sus amigos Jib y Diggy han evitado la cultura de las drogas y las pandillas, en parte porque son un poco bichos raros, y lo que les interesa es obtener buenas calificaciones y no la vida de matón. La vida tranquila de Malcolm se enreda cuando un traficante de drogas le invita a una fiesta clandestina. El grupo de amigos se verá entonces envuelto en complicaciones, multitud de malas decisiones y personajes excéntricos (Sony Pictures Esp.)

A very intelligent, entertaining and refreshingly new take on coming-of-age film. I never dreamed that a film about Hip Hop, black people and drugs would grow on me. Dope may not crackle with humor, but it garners marks for its other attributes. Likeable geek main characters, catchy soundtrack, brisk pace, working tension, decent twists, beautiful colorful visuals and a great twist with a message at the end. Very good though authentically gritty. I have not cheered for anyone so much in a long time! PS: an incredible supply of slang! 80%!

This is a film that is a very pleasant surprise in several ways. First and foremost, it's the young actors who show that they are incredibly capable and that they carry the whole film just fine on their own. The second aspect is the characters that appear here, and subsequently, the screenplay, which has something of Pulp Fiction in it, but it's different, modern, and aimed at the youth.
