Rumours are roaming that old Torday the bank governor is dying. The relatives are gathering, waiting for the heritage. His former mother-in-law, a loud lady called "Mum" arrives as well, who brings with her Kovács Gazsi, the never-seen son of Torday from America. The banker recovers. Gazsi is raised by a nurse, so that the young man should learn the good manners. The nurse, Horváth Ilonka and the pretty young man form a gentle relationship, but the father wants to marry his son to the daughter of a rich bank director.
