Reseña del usuario Necrotongue de esta serie (29)

Season 1 (2017) (S01)

inglés The first season of the series was fantastic thanks to its amazing retro vibe and high-quality cast. Fortunately, the creators didn't end there, because there was also a very good script, so I was able to enjoy a good dose of excellent humor, complemented by a very well-managed drama. I've already pinpointed the details in my reviews of the individual episodes, so all I have left to say is that I'm looking forward to the second season. 4*+ ()

Pilot (2017) (S01E01)

inglés The pilot episode was quite unusual for me. I didn't have the feeling that I was watching something amazing, the humor was present but not enough for me to laugh from beginning to end, so it should have been a weaker average for me. Well, but after the half-hour episode ended, I realized that a whole hour had passed, I had been entertained the entire time without really knowing why, and boredom didn't threaten me at all. ()

Ya Shivu v Bolshom Dome Na Kholme (2017) (S01E02)

inglés While I was not entirely clear why I was having so much fun in the previous episode, this time I was certain about the reason. The plot in the second episode significantly livened up, and even though I had been smiling since the morning meeting in the gym, it was not until Thursday's dinner that it really kicked into high gear. ()

Because You Left (2017) (S01E03)

inglés I had a feeling that the pace in the third episode slightly dropped, so I also slightly reduced my rating, but that was the only flaw. Otherwise, I again had a great time and I am very grateful to the creators for casting the excellent Rachel Brosnahan in the main role and not going for Elizabeth Moss, for example. That would be really unfortunate (a huge understatement). 4*+ ()

The Disappointment of the Dionne Quintuplets (2017) (S01E04)

inglés The truth is, I didn't tear the defense again this time, but that's actually okay because it wasn't the creators' intention either. I liked how they managed to create an excellent mix of good humor and drama without falling into awkwardness. Some of Abe's lines really got me, and it completely fascinates me that some men didn't even have a chance to find out what their wives really look like after thirty years of marriage. 4*+ ()

Doink (2017) (S01E05)

inglés I have already praised Abe's character in the previous comment, and I have to do it again. I enjoy talking to him, even though he only repeats "O.K." a few times. I felt like this time there was more humor, especially in the first half of the episode, and then the plot became somewhat more serious. However, that is not a complaint, the script delivers the drama very well. ()

Mrs. X at the Gaslight (2017) (S01E06)

inglés When a series is not completely good, usually half of the season doesn't work. Sometimes the first half is weaker, in some cases it's the second half that doesn't appeal to me. It is easiest with bad series, where the whole season is weak. With all this I mean that I have already watched the sixth episode and so far I have not seen a bad episode, and that says something. ()

Put That On Your Plate! (2017) (S01E07)

inglés So, I don't want to offend Miriam in any way, but I'm starting to get the feeling that the real comedians here are Abe Weissman and his wife Rose. They always reliably amuse me. Anyway, this was once again an entertaining and instructive matter, which will enlighten someone that it's cool to be spontaneous, but... ()

Thank You and Good Night (2017) (S01E08)

inglés Okay, so the creators did a great job with the finale. I liked that they didn't come up with some absolutely amazing ending for the season, it was clear that they are counting on a second season, so they calmly prepared a conclusion that can easily be continued. As usual, I had a good time and I'm looking forward to the continuation. ()

Season 2 (2018) (S02)

inglés You can already tell from my rating that the second season made an even better impression on me than the first one. I was having fun the whole time, because Amy Sherman-Palladino wrote a great screenplay with characters that she fine-tuned after the previous season, which was exactly what the series needed. The character of Midge is great in itself, but Abe Weissman was really killing it in some moments. I was greatly satisfied. ()

Simone (2018) (S02E01)

inglés Miriam's character is undeniably well-crafted, and Rachel Brosnahan brings her to life brilliantly. However, it's her parents who steal the show on several occasions. Abe and Rose are just so charmingly portrayed that I can't help but adore them. Living under the same roof might be a bit much, but watching them from afar is a delight. 4*+ ()

Mid-way to Mid-town (2018) (S02E02)

inglés I'm genuinely hooked on this series, no denying it. While some half-hour episodes of other shows can feel like they drag on forever, here, it works the other way round. There's not a dull moment in sight — I'm too busy thoroughly enjoying myself from start to finish. ()

The Punishment Room (2018) (S02E03)

inglés The third episode was, so far, the weakest of the season for me, yet I can't label it as bad either. Abe and Rose remain my go-to for a good chuckle. If the upcoming episodes maintain at least the same standard, I'll be content. ()

We're Going to the Catskills! (2018) (S02E04)

inglés This was an absolute feast of snobbery, the kind you don't come across every day. As someone who enjoys movies and series set in Victorian England, I've seen my fair share, but this one takes the cake. I can't recall the last time I witnessed such a gathering of Jewish families on screen—maybe not since Schindler's List. ()

Midnight at the Concord (2018) (S02E05)

inglés I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Catskills, surrounded by its captivating attractions that left me in silent awe. However, the final part at the Concorde hotel easily surpassed everything that Steiner Mountain Resort had offered me thus far. Abe:-) ()

Let's Face the Music and Dance (2018) (S02E06)

inglés While this episode may not have quite reached the heights of the previous one, I couldn't bring myself to deduct a whole star. Abe's confrontation with harsh reality was excellent, and his level of disillusionment was palpable. Tony Shalhoub truly shines in his role, as he always does, and I thoroughly enjoy his performance. 5*- ()

Look, She Made a Hat (2018) (S02E07)

inglés I'd easily give this episode four stars, if it weren't for two standout moments that really elevated it for me. Firstly, Rufus Sewell's almost walk-on part was nothing short of stellar, as expected from him. Secondly, Yom Kippur was another highlight. ()

Someday... (2018) (S02E08)

inglés I'm approaching this series with a hefty dose of uncritical enjoyment. Despite my efforts to critique, I can't help but get swept up in it all. The episode introduced a slew of "firsts": the first autograph, the first tour, the first fire, the first motel... And once again, I found myself thoroughly entertained. What can I say? 5 stars. ()

Vote for Kennedy, Vote for Kennedy (2018) (S02E09)

inglés In my review of the previous episode, I highlighted several notable "firsts," and in the ninth episode, we witnessed a television first. It seems when things are on track, they really shine. The creators brilliantly revisited one of the major conflicts from the first season, and the television performance was a blast. Moreover, both conversations between fathers and sons were hilarious. ()

All Alone (2018) (S02E10)

inglés The creators decided not to give Miriam as much screen time this time, but they still crafted an engaging finale. True to form, it wasn't a flashy affair with fireworks or marching bands, but it struck the perfect balance between humor and drama, much like the rest of the series. ()
