Spencer King's directorial debut Black Petunia is set in a dystopian Detroit, where unsuspecting citizens are being poisoned through municipal water causing them to forget their identities. James, a young inner-city black male, is convinced to stop drinking the water and challenge the corrupt government when he encounters an underground conspiracy. With the help of his friends, he pieces together his life and devises a plan to reshape the future of Detroit, challenging contemporary culture, social customs, and traversing racial boundaries.
