An espionage, sci-fi thriller with a metaphysical twist, Counterpart is about a mysterious world hidden beneath the surface of our everyday existence. Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons) is a lowly cog in the bureaucratic machinery of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency. When Howard discovers that his organization safeguards the secret of a crossing into a parallel dimension, he is thrust into a shadow world of intrigue, danger, and double crossing... where the only man he can trust is his near-identical counterpart from this parallel world. Counterpart (2017)
An outstanding spy series spiced up with a twist concerning parallel worlds. The creators build on the characters, mainly on the excellent J. K. Simmons and slowly introduce the world/s. Cleverly setting the action in modern-day Berlin makes a nice parallel with the times of the Cold War and the Berlin Wall. The emphasis on tangled relations, layer upon layer of lies and intriguing twists is complemented by a good fantasy element. The conclusion serves well as an ending, but offers loose ends for another season. Just great.

The Crossing (2017) (S01E01)
A very promising introduction to a world of dual reality. Berlin setting well chosen, modern cold war atmosphere interesting. Simmons great in both situations. But personally I root for the opponent. Initial introduction to the rules and the origin of the Crossing is pure pleasure. I can’t wait for the next season. The last thing you want…is me... and I have nothing left to say.

Season 2 (2018) (S02)
It quits while it’s ahead. ON the one hand, it’s good that Counterpart delivered quality from the first, hard-hitting episodes, offering revelations and surprises until the very end. On the other hand, however, it’s a shame that we don’t find out what happens next. So the ending remains brutal satisfaction and retribution and not just another catalyst.

Twin Cities (2019) (S02E06)
A great episode full of answers. When and how the split occurred, the first divergence and the consequences for both duplicated worlds. Very clever and educative. Now I’m keen to find out how these revelations will influence the main storyline.
