Sinopsis(1)

The best American detective, Nick Carter, comes to Art Nouveau Prague to solve a tricky case - and to taste local beer and fall in love. This parody of trashy detective stories brought together Oldřich Lipský, writer Jiří Brdečka and artist Jan Švankmajer. (Summer Film School)

inglés A timeless classic for me, and an incredibly balanced film. There is something in it for everyone, perhaps with the exception of vegetarians, because not even the plants denied themselves meat, and commissioner Ledvina was basically a human advertisement for the meat industry. The feminists must have been disgusted with the character of Květuška, who was completely dependent on the help of the manly Nick Carter. Then again, they must have been thrilled by Olga Schoberová, who gave an excellent performance as Karin, the steam locomotive fireman. Oldřich Lipský really excelled at writing parodies. Casting Michal Dočolomanský in the lead role was a great move. ()

inglés A magnificent film and a beautiful example of how rich, entertaining, funny, and inventive Czech cinematography can be. All the actors thoroughly enjoy their roles, just as others enjoyed the story, tricks, and everything else. "Adéla hasn't had dinner yet" is literally a national treasure and an example of how great films we used to be able to make. We are currently unable to do something similar. We are not playful, we are not capable of combining intelligent humor and an interesting story. One then watches these amazing old gems with love. ()
