Jonas

Jonas is a bittersweet story about growing up, first love and coming to terms with the past, which, thanks to its plot structure that interweaves two temporal planes, manages to hold the viewer's attention for a full eighty minutes and only lets go at the end. At first glance, this unassuming TV movie offers both a strong story and a likeable cast. I like films that aren't told in a straightforward manner on a single timeline, of which Jonas is a prime example. Another plus point is the somewhat open ending in terms of answering the initial questions, allowing the viewer to decide which option they are more likely to lean towards at the end. (29.11.2018)
