Jack Nicholson interpreta a Henry Moon, un forajido de medio pelo, en esta comedia románica que transcurre en 1860. Moon se salva de la horca gracias a una encantadora joven que acepta casarse y hacerse cargo de él. Mary Steenburgen da vida a Julia Tate, una cabezota aunque educada muchacha del Sur, que se casa con Moon sólo para que le ayude a trabajar en la mina de oro que, según ella, se encuentra en sus propiedades. Jack shines and takes the film all to himself, filling with his smile every loophole in an insanely naive script, whose biggest advantage is the great insight and good mood that radiates from every shot. It takes a lot of courage to combine western, comedy and romance into one work, and the final impression is very specific and uneven. At times, it’s a brisk movie full of effective humour, but also a bit of a ramble about two completely different people coming together. In the end, however, it’s a very enjoyable and funny comedy, which, although Nicholson's inexperience as a director contributes to it, is at the same time incredibly enriched by his acting mastery...
