An episode that is once again current this year. The Malibu Stacy case responded to Mattel's real problem with Teen Talk Barbie. In 1992, Mattel launched a line of toys with a talking device hidden in beautiful dolls. It featured 270 different sentences, a fraction of which provoked the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the American Association of University Women, whereupon the sentences were modified. Interestingly, the sentence "Math class is tough" was objected to, but no praise came for the sentence "I'm studying to be a doctor". Today, they are certainly valuable collector's items.
