Walter Faber viaja de Nueva York a Venezuela. Su vuelo se estrella en pleno desierto mejicano y él, junto a otro pasajero, sobreviven al accidente. Indagando en su vida, Walter se da cuenta de que la persona con la que ha sobrevivido, a una muerte casi segura, es el hermano de su mejor amigo, Joachim, y al que no ve hace muchísimo tiempo.
