Rejoice, for our beloved masked mascot is back, except that he isn’t. Though billed as a Santo film, Santo: Infraterrestrial is actually a vehicle for the Son of Santo, who took over the identity and the silver mask to carry on his late father’s legacy. And has he done his papa proud. In the film, he has to fight some aliens who are living beneath Earth's surface, causing harm to humans and endangering the very life on our planet. So there you have it. Santo’s new adventure has all the ingredients one would expect – wrestling, monsters and lots of madcap action, all done in the same old as-cheap-as-possible way. Santo: Infraterrestre es una broma mexicana de corte puramente televisivo, que con su imbécil trama y las motivaciones completamente aleatorias de los personajes cumple solo con cualidades muy marginales del cine de aventuras, si es que se puede hablar de alguna cualidad. Pensando en el plan de los villanos en este caso, descubro que en realidad no tengo ni idea de lo que se trataba. Uno puede reírse de lo ingenuo y malo que es, pero este El Santo no tiene mayores ambiciones. [2020]
